How do I make my tangerine tree produce sweet fruit?
I have a tangerine tree and it produces bitter/sour fruit. How can I make it produce sweet tangerines?
1. There are different varieties of tangerines just like oranges and apples. You may not be growing a particularly sweet variety.
2. I hate to tell you this but the sweetness of the fruit is usually determined by the acidity of the soil it's planted in. You can try to add fertilizer and blood meal, etc. to ammend the soil and that may make a little difference. Go to your local nursery and ask for advice, I've found they are usually very happy to help.
3. tangerine (mandarin) trees do not produce sweet good tasting fruit until they get to be 5-7 years old.
